A new swimming pool on a popular resort property in Mexico has been removed after two women reported a man in the pool had raped them.
The Mexican resort, which is owned by the resort chain Caesars Palace, issued a statement Tuesday saying the pool would be closed for renovations after the two women came forward.
The resort’s public relations department said the resort was “very sorry for the incident and for the pain it caused the two young women.”
The statement did not elaborate on what prompted the incident.
Caesars spokeswoman Jennifer Mariscal said the woman and her boyfriend had visited the pool in August, but the two never reported it to hotel staff.
Mariscal said a hotel staff member had tried to report the incident to police, but it did not appear to be taken seriously.
The statement said the pool was closed for several months.
The couple has not yet returned to the pool, Mariscal told The Associated Press.
“It is very important that all guests feel safe and secure in the new resort,” Mariscal added.
Caresars Palace did not immediately return messages seeking comment from the AP.
